Students of Modern Machining Technology can now earn "Dual College Credit with the Project Excel program from Vincennes University. First years students can earn up to 6 college credits and second year students can earn 2 more for a total of 8 college credits.
UPDATE!! Vincennes is working out the details where we may be able to offer as many as 14 college credits.
The "Dual Credit" program qualifies for the new Indiana "Technical Honors" program.
New Machines
Last year, we purchased a new Clausing mill with a 3 axis Acu-Rite CNC control on it and 4 new Acra 16in lathes with DRO.
Enrolment:
Once again, our afternoon class has filled up and is closed. This has been a regular thing the past few years. We currently had 14 students signed up for the morning class and 18 for the afternoon class. Enrolment is still fairly constant.
Academics:
Indiana Department of Education Core40 and the new Technical Honors Diploma information: http://www.doe.state.in.us/core40/diploma_requirements.html
The link above also has a "FAQ" document to aid in determining the requirements for core40 and THD
We also have an articulation agreement with Purdue-Calumet where students can acquire up to after completing 2 years of Modern Machining Tech and then enrolling in Purdue's MET program within 3 years after high school graduation. We have achieved the same articulation with Purdue-North Central.
We also have a pending agreement with the Porter County Machinist Apprenticeship program where a student that fulfils the same requirements as above can enter into the second year of the apprenticeship skipping the entire first year.
NOCTI EXAM
We will again be taking the NOCTI assessment test for Precision Machining at the end of this school year. The test is only for a study to determine if it would serve as a viable "Assessment" for Career & Technical Programs. Students' performances on the NOCTI tests will not be used in determining their final grades for Modern Machining Technology.
Getting Noticed:
In the early spring of 2006, the Modern Machining Technology program was given an award of excellence for being the top vocational program in Indiana for 2006. It was very impressive.

Starting Careers:
The past couple of years have been a challenge for students to find jobs and start careers immediately out of high school. We currently have 3 students working part time in local manufacturing. These "part time" jobs are looking pretty positive to turn into full time positions after students graduate.

They have provided us with donations and or support which makes our program unique in its structure and "award winning" in its curriculum.
